    Baylen, you are an inspiration and will be an asset in the medical field! Remember that you can pursue your dreams -- just keep an open mind about how they may manifest. You may or may not be able to do some kinds of nursing -- but that doesn't mean you can't be of such help and value in some version of that role. You can do it - you have a lot to offer. I wish you all the best!

    I have autism, Tourette syndrome and depression. I have a vocal tic where I clear my throat and cough, which really sucked during Covid. And growing up the teachers would glare at me because they thought the noises I was making was me trying to disturb the class and I was branded the class clown. Which was stupid and the tics were something I couldn’t control. Seeing this video I am amazed at the courage of Baylen. So inspiring. I would never have the courage to talk about it on television, let alone on TikTok. I have other tics that aren’t as noticeable as the vocal tics. I pop my shoulder out. When I was a kid I would bend over and stretch my back this weird way as I walked. And I had a tic with my leg where it would kick out as I walked. It went away on its own somehow, along with the back one. My neck tic went away when I was a kid but came back. I have no idea what makes certain tics happen and not others. I was diagnosed at a very early age.

    I saw a video of an Australian girl with severe Tourettes syndrome. it was very uncomfortable and painful for her but she was so lively and confident ...she had thin electrodes planted in her brain during the surgery. it cured her almost 90 to 95 per cent. not to be insensitive, but I wouldn't want her putting in a cath, IV, an injection of any sort, trying to move a patient or support a patient, give CPR, clean a trach, adjust oxygen, adjust a drip, make a blood draw, use a tongue blade, turn a patient, or empty a colostomy bag with those violent tics. Unfortunately it's incredibly unsafe for every one of her patients if her disease is so progressed. She could go into nursing research but to encourage someone with this disability to go into nursing is cruel and basically utterly irresponsible just because we're afraid to tell someone no in this day and age. (from an RN)

      Totally agree. It's kind of odd they don't recommend another helping profession (since she seems adamant) like Social Work instead. I'm one and at least the main worry is not having someone unalive themselves - especially what kind you go into. She could very easily be a social worker and even get focused in Tourettes etc. Maybe they just don't know the options. I feel like if I was her I would choose something fulfilling but realistic and can do volunteer work on the side.

  • @BatHouse6

    I feel for her, poor girl. I also feel that maybe her parents should be more realistic about career goals. It would be crushing for her to get through a good portion of schooling and not be able to pursue a career in nursing. Unless the symptoms lesson, she already needs daily help with things like brushing her hair; I can't imagine that she'd be able to do something like insert an IV or just take vitals from the way her tics are. Maybe a therapist or something similar in a field of care? Wishing her all the best. :(

  • @TheDude0fLife
    @TheDude0fLife 4 месяца назад +3

    This is so bizarre. I mean I totally get involuntary tics, I had some as a child. But the idea that your brain, without any input from you, chooses specifically things that are obscene, offensive and inappropriate, primarily of a vulgar or sexual nature like references to genitalia and such, rather than repeating more innocuous phrases. It's all pretty hard to swallow. I don't know about "cute", that doesn't even make sense, but surely you can see why people think it's fake.

    • @davelojek7114
      @davelojek7114 2 месяца назад

      Just because your symptoms are different doesn’t mean she is faking it. They only show half of the entire interview and too be honest I feel like Dr. Phil only posted this portion to make a conversation if she was faking it not. This interview is much longer and if you were to watch it in its entirety, the discussion about if she was faking it or not, wouldn’t be as obvious. I had my doubts but actually found the WHOLE segment and feel like the show did this on purpose to drive up views. If I’m wrong then why not just post the entire length?!

    So I've recently stumbled onto her TT and the only reason why I began following her is because she's from the same state as me. I saw a video where she said that she didn't want people laughing at her but with her. People are accusing her of faking. I am on neither team (faking vs. not) I'm just legit curious about something, though. She recently opened a merch store that advertises her ticks. Raising awareness is one thing, but why would you use something that people literally laugh at you for?

    • @leaftgif
      @leaftgif 2 года назад +4

      I'm on neither side too but you questioning why she'd make merch about her tics because "people will laugh at her" is directly stating she's not allowed to embrace her tics simply because some people may be uneducated or ignorant. You also recited her saying she wanted people to laugh WITH her rather than AT her so your comment is just double confusing.

      If she's fine with it, good on her. She's taking something that can be considered a "weakness" and making money out from it, that's quite amazing and very smart.
      Many comedians with disabilities use their personal experiences with their struggles in their job as well and it's fair to say that it is not for everyone, but that's why it is, after all, their choice that relies heavily upon their own sense of self-irony.
      If people are gonna laugh at you no matter what, making them literally pay for it can't be blamed.

    Realistically not everyone has the capability of being a nurse. Someone who cannot control their motor skills and such a severe case of tourettes could unfortunately kill someone. But of course we all have to be politically correct and give false hope to this young woman. There are other fields of work much safer and appropriate for her condition but again it's not politically correct to tell someone that. Would you feel comfortable having her as a pediatric ICU nurse for your child? The wrong medical move literally can someone, it happens enough with nurses without motorskill issues. She seems like a wonderful human being but we are doing her no favors by encouraging a horrible career choice for her.

      Yeah I remember reading this comment from someone claiming to be a nurse who said that she would love to work with her. Now I’m a nurse myself and I have no contempt for this young girl in my heart but let’s be realistic. Even if she were to pass nursing school she can’t work in any capacity. She will get assaulted, she’s gonna drive people crazy. That might be mean to say but I’m just being real.

      I've watched many of her videos, some more recent she goes through almost the whole thing without anything out of the ordinary like just a normal girl. Yet others are so over the top with the constant swearing and "sayings". Some have said she does this on purpose to get more likes/subs/views, like she exploits her condition. She does make money off of all the videos/RUclips/TikTok etc. I do not have Tourettes but I do have many issues with autoimmune disorders, nerve disease, and other issues and would never exploit my own health for popularity or money. Others with Tourettes have also said how themselves or others they know with it have never acted like that. So its probably her family and herself making it so over the top so she makes more money getting more views/likes/sponsorships/ subs, etc. Even though now she is an adult she still is not fully functioning alone so her parents surely must get a cut of all the money she makes.
